What is the Learning Broadcast Network?
The Learning Broadcast Network is a network of media servers (Media
Points) that serve training material reliably and dynamically
to internet and Intranet consumers. These servers are strategically
placed in major Internet backbone crossings and in local Internet
Service Providers across the United States. Using the Learning Broadcast
Network's SmartMap Technology, the Learning Broadcast Network is
able to find the route from the consumer's computer to the closest
MediaPoint Server, resulting in the best possible training experience.
The Learning Broadcast Network also has a central Server location,
Network Operations Control (NOC). Housed at this location is the
central User Authentication server, the Network Monitor Server,
and the Onlineexpert.com portal site.

Benefits of Media Points
Pushing content over the Internet to media points that are geographically
near the user is an efficient, cost-effective method for distributing
content on the Internet. Getting content to the media points require
bandwidth and network monitoring and validating packet delivery.
As described above, being close to the user geographically actually
does not constitute that the servers have to be in the same city
but more specifically on the same network as the ISP who is providing
the dial-up connectivity for the user. For instance, if media point
servers are located on the Qwest network, then the opportunity is
very good for a user who has dial-up with an ISP who is provided
connectivity from QWest. Networks are designed to run first, efficiently
on their proprietary network then with other networks.
The major benefits of MediaPoints
- Media point servers work help to facilitate content distribution
across geographic locations. This enables content providers
to serve a larger client base without having to upgrade either
their network or the server infrastructure.
- For a content provider, media ensure that content is distributed
to the user in a high quality and consistent manner. For a content
provider, responsibility for and management of the content distribution
service is now delegated to LBN network service engineers, to
distribute monitor and maintain.
- Most importantly, Media Points provides better quality
service to users. By retrieving content from local media points,
users see improved connection and response times.
